Through CA (Conservation Agriculture) implemented by TDA in different years in 13 Districts of Wolaita Zone in collaboration with its funding partners more than 20,000 farmers have witnessed the increase in production and productivity, their livelihoods have improved as compared to the traditional method of farming, and their labor has been greatly reduced. They believed at last it may give them a chance to break out of the vicious circle that binds them in poverty.

Because, CA is intended to produce high crop yields while reducing production costs, maintaining the soil fertility and conserving water. It is a way to achieve sustainable agriculture and improve livelihoods.
As International Institute of Rural Reconstruction and the African Conservation Tillage Network Conservation Agriculture Manual, it has three basic principles; disturb the soil as little as possible, keep the soil covered as much as possible and mix and rotate crops.

These three principles of conservation agriculture are like a three-legged cooking pot; it works best if it has all three legs. Farmers quickly find that by applying these principles, they can save labor, reduce costs, and improve their soil’s fertility and ability to hold water. That means higher crop yields. They can use the time they have saved to expand the area they cultivate, or even to start other enterprises that earn more money.
Including the newly started project, which aimed Scaling Conservation Agriculture Sustainable Intensification in Wolaita Zone Boloso Sore & Boloso Bombe District, TDA implementing CA in different way in Areka, Gununo, Boddity, Humbo, Abala Abaya, Hobicha, Damote Woyde, Offa, Kindo Koysha, Bayra Koysha, Sodo Town and Sodo Zuria.
